Lit Essay#1:One of These Days

The mayor is on the greater side, while the dentist is not. The short story “One of These Days” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, takes place in the Civil war and this poor dentist named Aurelio Escovar ,without a degree. The Mayor he comes and asked if he can take out his lower wisdom tooth, and the Mayor is like on the winning side of the Civil war and Aurelio is on the losing side. The Point of view is narrator because the story is like he said..., mayor said... things like that.    

Aurelio tries to tell his son to tell the mayor that he’s not in today, but the mayor over hears him. “Papa. What?. The Mayor wants to know if you’ll pull his tooth. Tell him I’m not here.  He says you are, too, because he can hear to.” This shows that Aurelio doesn’t want to pull the Mayor’s tooth, but the mayor over hears him and after that he has no choice but to assist the Mayor and pull his tooth.

When the dentist was pulling out the mayor’s wisdom tooth it really hurt because he didn’t put anesthesia. “ It has to be without anesthesia. why?. because you have an abscess. The Mayor felt the crunch  of bones in his Jaw, and his eyes filled with tears. But he didn’t breathe until he felt the tooth come out. Then he saw it through his tears.” This  shows that, the tooth really hurt when the dentist pulled it out without anesthesia.

My opinion about the short story is that it is a good story, but at the same time I didn’t understand it because it starts with a dentist pulling out a tooth for the Mayor. But then I understand it’s about different sides in power, there’s the winning side and the losing side. The Mayor is on the winning side and the dentist is on the losing side.

    My name is John and I’m the boy with the curse. I already explain to you how I got my curse and what is it. For starters, my curse is that I am a good boy on the morning but when it becomes 8:00P.M. I am very bad. The only way I can get rid of this curse is to married my love, Julie because every time I’m around here I turn back the way I was before the curse. So I am writing this at 7:45, 15 minutes pass my bedtime, and I should really sleep or I will turn in to my bad side. I can’t sleep so I wait for a while, then I look at the time and it’s 7:59. I think to my self “ I have to sleep now!.” I try to sleep in one minute, but next thing you know I feel the same change I feel when I am turning into my bad side. Here I am in my bad side,and I try to open the door but my mom locked it just in case I turn into my bad side. I look around my room to see where I can get out. I look at my window and thinks of something, so I tied all the cloth that was in my room to make a rope. Like clothes, blanket etc. I went down the rope and went to the backyard, I went trough the back door. Turn I got a bunch of buckets and filled them with water and put in every door in my house except my door. So I went back to sleep and all I here when I wake up is “JOHN!” and I said “ It was my bad side”. My mom said “How could that happen if you were sleeping” I said “ I couldn't sleep and stood up.” and she said “OK but you have to learn to control it” I said “OK”

A Day at The Park

  IWP#1                                             

Going to the park on Saturday with my two friends, Ricardo, Mathew and my brother, Branly,was very intense . We played baseball. The game wasn’t right playing baseball with only four people, so we asked people if they wanted to play, most of them said yes, some said no. So we started to “PLAY BALL” and it was 5 on 5 and they were very difficult because they had this person named Lewis, and he kept on making homeruns, he was the captain of the team.

We managed  to keep the score tied but later Lewis made a grand slam, so that meant we were down 4. But later Ricardo made a home-run, but we were still down 3. So in that same inning I made a double and Matthew  made a single, so there were runners at the corners(first and third base) no outs and Branly was up, and got two strikes, but then he hit that ball over the gate for a three run home-run. We were tied.

It was the top of the last inning and Branly was up and made another home-run, we were very excited about winning. Then Ricardo was up and made another home-run, so it was back to back home-runs, and I wanted to make it back to back to back home-runs So I was up and on the first pitch I hit the ball far, down right field and I thought it was a home-run but it wasn’t it hit the tree and I made a triple.

I was really furious because if that tree wasn't there then it would of been a home-run, but at least I got a triple and later scored by Matthew. Then we got the three outs and it was our turn to go on the field and it was the bottom of the last inning, so that meant if we make the three outs then we win. I felt good because we were up 3.

Then Lewis drove in one run and later scored , so we were up 1, that meant that the other team need 1 more point to tied , and two points to win. But then it was 2 outs and Lewis steps up to the plate and next thing you know, he has 2 strikes. Branly is pitching and I am really nervous that Lewis is going to blast the ball out of the park, so Branly pitches the ball and Lewis hits a high pop up and I was scared that Ricardo was going to drop the ball, and eventually the ball comes down in to his glove for the win.

The Boy with the Curse

IWP#2

One day this boy named John. John had a curse that goes away when he’s with a girl he likes and if he marries her, the curse will break free. The curse was that he was a well behave  boy in the morning but when night comes he is bad to everybody. The girl’s name is Julie, he likes this girl so much, when he sees her he becomes a normal boy again not good or bad. So he wants to marry her and be free from the curse. Since John likes Julie so much he does not know if Julie likes him. So he tries to impress her by acting cool and dressing up nice around her. He even tries to be his secret amour by giving her little notes or even giving flowers and chocolate. Julie is trying to find her secret amour, but she keeps on choosing the wrong guy. I want to tell her it’s me but I’m scared that she wouldn’t like me back. She likes the things I write because I always over hear her saying how cute the notes are and how cute are my poems.

Now let me tell you what happens when I’m good and bad. When I’m good a do a lot of good things like doing all my chores and always doing my homework. I try to do my homework before 8:00 because that’s when my bad side appear and he doesn’t do homework. I also do good deeds ,but when it’s nighttime and I turn bad, I play mean pranks on people, even my family. One of the easy pranks my bad side dose is placing a bucket on top of a door, so that when they open it, it falls on them. I also try to sleep very early so when I turn to my bad side I will be sleeping. But there was this one-day when I turned to my bad side and I almost controlled it by thinking of Julie, but then my bad side took over me.

    How the curse happened was that I was at a carnival and I was looking for something interesting to try, then I saw this booth and it said “come in to be curse” I didn’t believe that someone could actually be cursed, so I went inside to see what would happen. I herd a old lady say “Come in boy” and I said “Ok”. So the old lady said, “You came in to get cursed right?” I said “No such thing” she said “ sit down and you’ll see”. So sat down on a chair and the old lady started saying these weird words that I couldn't understand and I wasn’t scared because I knew it wasn’t true (but I thought wrong). When the old lady finish next thing you know I’m at my house, in my bed, waking up for school. I felt weird but I that whole thing was a dream. So then I made my own breakfasts but I never made my breakfast before my mom always does.

    I felt weird inside, but didn’t really pay attention to it. So at school I handed in all my homework, and every time teacher asked us questions I will raised my hand, but I almost never raise my hand. I still felt weird inside, I came home and did my homework right away, I never do my homework early, I always do it around 4:00-5:00. Night came and it was about 8:00 and I’m watching T.V, and I feel this change in me. Next thing you know I am a bad boy, with different clothes and everything. 5 minutes later I’m already playing pranks. I put a bucket of water on top of my door and slept. Next thing you know I hear a crash sound and it was my mother, all wet with a bucket on top of her head. She was so mad at, me, and I said “I don’t care” She got furious. She told me that I’m grounded for a month and to stay in bed. When she left. I got out of my bed and put a bucket of water in every door in my house.

    When I woke up I went downstairs and everyone was wet. I felt sorry for them, so I explained everything about how I got the good and bad curse and how my bad side takes over. They didn’t believe a thing. So I told them when I come back home and when the time is 8:00 they’ll see. So I came back home and did all of my homework. Then when the time became 8:00, I feel the same change in me, and my whole family was looking. Then I said “what you guys looking at, go look at something else.” Then they started to believe me that I actually got curse. So what they’ll do is before I turn into my bad side they will lock me in my room and also my bed time is at 7:30. I have told you every thing you need to know about my curse.
